50 Games You Must Play Before You Die: 50 - 41

50 Games You Must Play
Before You Die...

This is the bucketlist. The ultimate pile of shame. The games you literally have to play if you consider yourself a lover of games. In order to memorialise the occasion in the annuls of GMG blog history, I rallied the troops in GMG staff. We sat huddled in darkened room for days while onlookers stared tensely at the blacked-out windows. We didn't leave until we had chosen our glorious half-century.

You'll see the list expanding every 72 hours as we run up to the top ten - with our number one revealed on 23rd Aug - WHAT WILL IT BE??? There will be amazing discounts, and at the end of it we hope your gaming collection is fuller and richer than ever before. There's even a Top 30 Indie Games You Must Play right now as well!

Without further ado - the first batch of brilliance...

EVE Online - 75% off!
"Spreadsheets in space is a name normally given to Eve Online, but it's so much more than that. A constantly fluctuating economy, real threats from space and epic space battles provide one of the most engrossing and in-depth game I've ever played. It might be complicated, and you've got to submit yourself to a lot of time learning the game's systems, but the learning curve is immense."

Sid Meier's Pirates! - 75% off!
"What more could you want than to be a part of the Golden Age of Piracy? With Sid Meier's prestigious strategic stamp of approval, this remake of the age-old classic is chockfull of atmosphere, great gameplay and just plain fun. What better way to antagonise the English than to plunder their frigates, terrorise their towns and court their governors' daughters? Sign me up."
-Sean

"The game has the title it deserves. Back when I was a young'un, FEAR provided the thrills and spills I so desperately craved. It holds up pretty well, too, with a unique and distinct tone that few other games have managed to recreate in recent years. I love it!"
"Crusader Kings II is a marvel - all the medieval sword clashing I could ever want in a game, with the added boon of being able to command my army through the middle ages - to European domination!"
-James

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - 75% off
"One of the best action strategy games ever? Not only has a board game just been announced for XCOM, but I spent hundreds of hours managing my expert team of soldiers throughout the battlefield. You have to play on Ironman, where saves are limited and death is permanent. It's only then that you get the sense of tension when a soldier is stranded behind a small bit of cover with low health. A modern classic."
-Sam

"Played alone it's good. Played with friends it's a bonafide masterpiece. Borderlands 2 has enough gun-toting laugh-out-loud content that you could potentially be entertained for hundreds of hours. There's replay value, original characters, hilarious voice work and a progression system that just keeps you going for more. Pandora is one of my favourite places to go"
-Sam

"Not much to say really - simply perfect: the “Romero-ish” world in a constant atmosphere of tension you find in the TV show and the comics. Plus, big bonus you don’t often have in a video game: the psychology of each character, which you have to take into account in every decision you make."
-Remi

"Spitting zombies, choking zombies, puking zombies and even asbo-flaunting hoodie zombies. This is a genre-defining classic. It may go against some of the classic zomber tropes but the gameplay is smooth like a 30 year old whisky. An enthusiastic modding community offer up a variety of slick custom maps providing you with even more bodycount. Just keep a cool head and maybe save the last bullet for yourself."
-Rich

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - 75% off
"Where to begin? C&C has always been a pretty big part of my gaming life - I adore strategy! - but Red Alert 3 is one of my most loved games. It's epic, destructive and a time-sucking beauty. Definitely up their with the greats"
-Panos

Empire Total War - 75% off
"This game is the fantastic. I've spent over 300 hours playing it! There's nothing better than dominating the battlefield and using your brute force tactics to experiment with different approaches to combat. They may not always work as intended, but it all lends itself to making you an even better commander. Fun fact - I tested the game and was responsible for making sure that all ship mates drown once they go overboard. Morbid!"
